Boy held over OAP death is released

A 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murdering a pensioner in his home has been released without charge, police have said.

The body of Llwelyn Thomas, 76, was found after police were called to his home in Ely Road, Chittering, Cambridgeshire, just after midday last Sunday. Neighbours had reported concerns after noticing the retired farmer's lights had been on all night.

Detective Superintendent Jeff Hill said officers were keeping an open mind about the case but one line of inquiry was that Mr Thomas died in a burglary which went wrong.

The father-of-one was a widower who moved to Cambridgeshire from South Wales about 12 years ago. He died from injuries to his face and head.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said the boy was arrested on Friday but has now been released without charge.

Inquiries are continuing, he said. Anyone with information is asked to call the major incident unit on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
