British boxer Scott Westgarth (31) dies after winning fight in Doncaster

A British boxer has died at the age of 31 after he was rushed to hospital following a fight on Saturday.

Scott Westgarth had recorded a victory over fellow British boxer Dec Spellman at Doncaster Dome at the weekend.

During his post-fight interview, Westgarth looked visibly in pain and was holding his head. He later collapsed backstage.

The 31-year-old was taken to Royal Hallamshire Hospital where he passed away on Sunday night.

Tributes to the boxer have been flooding in on socail media from boxing legends including Carl Frampton and Ricky Hatton.

Carl Frampton posted: "Heart breaking to hear the news that Scott Westgarth has passed away. It's a stark reminder of how dangerous this sport is. RIP."

Ricky Hatton also commented: "Heartbreaking this. Thoughts to his friends and family. And to anyone involved in the show. Rest in peace young man."
