CCTV of suspected looters released

Detectives investigating last month's riots have released CCTV pictures of suspected looters in Liverpool.

The images show a large gang of young men who used golf clubs to smash their way into a North Face store and help themselves to thousands of pounds worth of designer clothing.

Merseyside Police released the CCTV and appealed for anybody who may have been offered stolen North Face clothing to contact the force.

The attack took place at the store, on Paradise Street in the city centre, at around 2.20am on Tuesday August 9.

The group members forced their way into the store then escaped towards School Lane where they were confronted by a police patrol car. They then ran off in different directions, dropping some of the clothing as they fled.

Most of those involved were dressed in dark clothing and several of them were wearing dark padded body warmer style jackets, police said.

Detective Sergeant Graham Southern said: "I would urge anyone who may have information which could help us bring these offenders to justice to come forward.

"Overnight on Monday August 8 and into the morning of Tuesday August 9 there had been incidents of violent disorder elsewhere in the city.

"The offenders may well have tried to sell the stolen clothing to other members of the public."

Anyone with information should call detectives on 0151 777 4519 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
