Classic Ford Escort Mexico gone in 40 seconds: Thieves steal £120,000 car in audacious ram raid

Thieves have stolen a classic car, the Ford Escort Mexico, worth over a £100,000 in a slick ram raid on a specialist car showroom in Yorkshire.

Surveillance footage from the store, in Portsmouth Road, in Ripley, captures the moment the group of thieves used a Land Rover Defender to ram in one of the showroom’s large window at 9.20pm on Tuesday.

The thieves, wearing jumpsuits that obscured their faces, quickly attached the car – worth approximately £120,000 – to the Land Rover and drove out of the Trackspeed Classic showroom.

The entire theft was over in less than 40 seconds.

Owner Mark McCracken said: “Clearly this was a professional and co-ordinated hit.”

Although there were eight other cars in his showroom, Mr McCracken suggested the Ford may have been “stolen for order.”

"The police were here within five minutes, but they [the thieves] just completely vanished - it is quite extraordinary,” he told GetSurrey.

It wasn't an entirely smooth operation: just was the haste of the thieves the video captures on of them slipping as he hastily exits the Land Rover.

Surrey police have released the video of events in an attempt to track the valuable car, which has the number plate DAD 422K and the number 27 on its side, and are appealing to the public for information.

In a statement, Surrey Police Detective Sergeant Adam Tatton said: "The footage released demonstrates the audacity of this crime and how it was clearly meticulously planned.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45150017925, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
