Couple and young son found dead after cottage blaze

The bodies of a couple and a young boy have been discovered inside a rural cottage that had been engulfed by fire.

The blaze completely gutted the property where the couple, named in reports as Tiago and Adriana Nunes and their son, also called Tiago, were found.

Police and fire investigations have been launched into the inferno at the building on the edge of Little Santon Farm in Trumpets Hill Road, Reigate, Surrey.

Surrey Police said the bodies were found following concerns for the safety of people living there.

A cordon remained around the farm as forensic experts examined the scene for clues.

A blue tent had been erected near the entrance to the cottage, which had been reduced to a shell.

It is believed the boy was a pupil at North Downs Primary School, where parents received a letter informing them of a "tragic incident".

Families were given a leaflet with advice on how to help their children deal with the tragedy as locals in the countryside community spoke of their shock.

One resident, Christine Beard, said police had spoken to her to ask whether she was aware of the incident.

She said: "The houses are few and far between here so we weren't aware of anything.

"The police have been round but I don't think they know how the fire started or what time it started.

"It's terrible news. We had seen comings and goings from there with horses, and had taken in the odd parcel for them, but that's it."

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "The property was found to have suffered serious fire damage and three people - two adults and a child - were found deceased.

"Next of kin have been informed."

"We are still investigating, with the fire service, to determine a cause of the fire as the cause remains unexplained at this time.

"If anybody was in the area at the time please let us know if you have any information which may assist with our inquiries by contacting 101."
