Former cricketer and head of Pakistan's opposition Tehreek-e-Insaf party Imran Khan is to divorce his wife less than a year after the pair wed.
Mr Khan, 62, married British-Pakistani journalist and film producer Reham Khan in January.
He said the impending divorce was creating a "painful time" for both parties.
In a statement on his official Facebook account, he said: "I have the greatest respect for Reham's moral character and her passion to work for and help the underprivileged."
He added: "Reports and speculation about financial settlements are absolutely false and shameful."
Naeem UI Haque, a central information secretary for the party, also said the plans were by mutual consent.
On Mr Khan's Facebook account, he wrote: "Due to the sensitivity and seriousness of this extremely painful matter it is requested that the media should refrain from any speculation.
"There will be no further communication in this respect."
