David Cameron's serious phone selfie: Patrick Stewart patches into Prime Minister and Barack Obama's Ukraine talks with wet wipes

By Christopher Hooten

David Cameron's stock image-esque photo of himself on the phone to Barack Obama has been lampooned by Twitter heroes Sir Patrick Stewart and Rob Delaney, who 'dialled in' with a tube of toothpaste and a packet of wet wipes.

The pair mimic the Prime Minister's stern expression in the photos, sending up his rare 'action shot' that elicited thousands of retweets from amused users yesterday.

"I've been speaking to @BarackObama about the situation in Ukraine. We are united in condemnation of Russia's actions," Cameron wrote, before comedian Delaney chimed in: "@David_Cameron @BarackObama Hi guys, I'm on the line now too. Get me up to speed."

Stewart capped things off, adding that he was "now patched in as well. Sorry for the delay."

The X-Men actor's perfect run on Twitter continues, having previously delighted us with a Superbowl gag eaturing friend and colleague Sir Ian McKellen and a picture of himself dressed as a lobster reclining in a bath tub.

Cameron and Obama have shown a united front over the Ukraine crisis, saying that Russia must face  "significant costs" if it does not change its course.

"The prime minister and President Obama spoke at 9pm tonight," a Downing Street spokesman said on Sunday.

"They agreed that Russia's actions were completely unacceptable. They agreed on the urgent need for de-escalation and for Russia to engage in a dialogue directly with Ukraine.

"They agreed there must be 'significant costs' to Russia if it did not change course on Ukraine."
