Eamonn Holmes slated by viewers for TV comments on Prince

By Kerri-Ann Roper

Eamonn Holmes has been criticised by viewers after he called Prince "more of a girls' artist".

He made the comments on This Morning while discussing the Purple Rain singer's life and death with his wife and co-presenter Ruth Langsford.

Tributes have flooded in from all over the globe following the musician's shock death.

Holmes said: "I think there was a bit of a problem with Prince. He was more of a girls' artist than a boys' artist. It was the flamboyancy.

"We find it hard to relate to him because there's that flamboyancy that you had with David Bowie as well..."

Viewers vented their anger at the Northern Ireland-born presenter on Twitter, with one commenting: "Eamonn Holmes not too keen on Prince's flamboyancy. Well I'm not too keen on Eamonn's buoyancy myself."

"That'll be why Prince never ascended to the level of fame that Eamonn Holmes enjoys," was another comment.

Holmes has returned to his presenting duties after a 10-week absence following a double hip operation.
