Elderly man is robbed in his Co Armagh home

By Cate McCurry

An elderly man has been robbed at his home in Co Armagh in the latest in a string of attacks on older people.

A man described as being his 20s or 30s and wearing a grey coat, grey trousers and hat forced his way into the man's house in Loughgall last night.

When the intruder was confronted by the older man, the attacker pushed him against a kitchen counter before stealing his wallet.

The victim was left shaken but unharmed.

Police appealed for witnesses following the robbery on Tirmacrannon Road, which happened between 6.30pm and 7pm.

The crime is the latest in a rash of attacks on older people across Northern Ireland.

On Monday, a woman in her 90s had her handbag stolen after being beaten around the head with a stick in east Belfast.

And just last week, an 82-year-old man was tied up and robbed at his home in Ballycormick Park in Ballymoney.
