End of bubbly for Man of Match?
Celebratory bottles of champagne could be abandoned as Man of the Match awards from Premiership football to avoid offending Muslims.
League sponsors Barclays are considering the move after Manchester City’s Yaya Toure turned down the traditional prize after his side beat Newcastle three weeks ago.
Handed the bottle from teammate Joleon Lescott, Yaya, 29, was captured on live television saying: “I don’t drink because I am a Muslim, so you keep it.”
A source said: “The bank is all over the bottle so Barclays wonder whether it is acceptable to give alcohol given that so many nationalities are in the league.”
