Enterprise awards record announced
A record number of firms have won Queen's Awards for Enterprise, ranging from small companies with just three workers, to household names such as Nissan and Marks and Spencer.
A total of 209 awards were announced for business achievement, covering a huge number of sectors such as motoring, electronics, law, tourism, recycling and pharmaceuticals.
Business minister Mark Prisk said: "The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the highest accolade a business can receive. The standard of this year's winners highlights the great work taking place by businesses of all sizes to help boost the growth of the UK economy."
Merseyside-based cooking appliance manufacturer Glen Dimplex Home Appliances was among the winners in the international trade category after overseas sales of its British-made products increased by 880%.
Chief executive Denver Hewlett said: "We are a British manufacturer operating in a challenging marketplace and competing against a number of overseas players, but we firmly believe that Made in Britain is a mark of quality and our overseas customers agree."
