Explicit photos of Kielty's wife Cat Deekley among pictures stolen in hack attack on biggest stars
TV's Cat Deeley - wife of Northern Irish comedian Patrick Kielty - has fallen victim to hackers who leaked naked pictures and explicit videos of some of the world’s most famous women.
Model Cara Delevingne and ex-Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay are among the stars to have fallen victim.
American actress Lena Dunham said the person responsible for the pictures was “a sex offender” and added that anyone looking at the images was “violating these women”.
Initial reports concluded the hackers obtained the pictures by attacking Apple’s iCloud service.
But the US tech giant said none of the cases it had so far investigated were a result of its iCloud or Find my iPhone systems being hacked but as a result of a “very targeted attack” on the security procedures of celebrity accounts.
The FBI said it was “aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high-
profile individuals, and is addressing the matter”.
A spokeswoman for Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence, another victim, said she had asked US authorities to prosecute the person who obtained the images, which she called a “flagrant violation of privacy”. Other stars said to have been affected include Cat Deeley, Avril Lavigne, Rihanna and actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who has confirmed the pictures of her are genuine. She wrote online: “To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves.”
Brown Findlay, known for her portrayal of Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey, is said to feature in a video showing her naked alongside an unknown man.
A piece of computer code that guesses passwords has been found online.
The script was posted to software site GitHub, but a message has since appeared saying that Apple had fixed the bug.
According to the post, the script uses the 500 most common passwords approved by Apple to try to gain access to user accounts.
The iCloud is Apple's cloud computing service, a wireless storage facility that can be used to access files remotely.
Cat Deeley and Co Down comedian Kielty were married on September 30, 2012 in Rome. After success in the UK, Deeley launched her career in Los Angeles and later became the presenter of So You Think You Can Dance — one of the US’s most popular and longest-running dance reality shows. She was the first ever British person to host the morning show Regis & Kelly and was Jay Leno's first regular entertainment correspondent on The Tonight Show. She also performed the same duty for Good Morning America.
