EastEnders is set to be rocked by what show bosses are saying is "an EastEnders villain like no other".
The show's executive producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, has hinted at what may unfold.
One of the big narratives set to rock Albert Square is the return of Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth).
Speaking about Kathy's third husband Gavin (played by Paul Nicholas), Treadwell-Collins said: "If everything works out, and I hope it will, Gavin is going to be an EastEnders villain like no other.
"He's going to be modern, complex, and have a little a foot in the past and a foot in the present."
So far no return date has been given for Beale, but she is expected to make an appearance late in the summer.
Treadwell-Collins also alluded to the Lucy Beale storyline, which exploded in February this year when her killer was revealed.
A staggering 11 million people tuned in to the episode to find out whodunnit.
In the end, it was revealed that her younger brother, Bobby, was the killer.
"We rested the story for a little bit and let everyone breathe," Treadwell-Collins said.
Unlike previous years when the show has "closed" for the summer, this year filming will carry on with the aim of building up to "a very explosive September".
Meanwhile, Robbie Jackson is returning to Albert Square. Actor Dean Gaffney is reprising his role in the soap for six episodes later this year.
Gaffney's character Robbie was last seen walking his sister Bianca down the aisle, before heading off to India to be with his pregnant wife, Nita.
