Fallen snooker ace's fraud charge

By Rod Minchin

Top snooker player Stephen Lee has been charged with fraud, police have said.

The 39-year-old is due before magistrates in Swindon, Wiltshire, later this month.

Lee, who was once ranked at number five in the world, has been charged in relation to the sale of a snooker cue.

A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said: "Wiltshire Police can confirm that 39-year-old Stephen Lee, of Birch Gardens, Trowbridge, has been charged with fraud by false representation.

"He has been bailed to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on May 28, 2014." Lee's playing career came to a premature end when he was banned for 12 years after being found guilty of seven charges of match-fixing two years ago.

In September 2013 an independent tribunal found him guilty of influencing the outcome of seven matches in 2008 and 2009.
