Father builds his own zebra crossing outside school

A concerned parent has built his own zebra crossing outside his five-year-old son’s school because the council said it could not afford the £14,000 to install a real one.

Yannick Read, 41 from Surrey spent just £50 on his own makeshift crossing using lino, drainpipes and orange balloons.

Mr Read said that motorists driving past the school in Kingston have so far respected his DIY job however the council has warned that his attempt to calm traffic in the area could in fact be illegal.
