Former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow has recorded a video rendition of With A Little Help From My Friends for a mother-of-two fighting Covid-19 in hospital and “all our NHS angels”.

The singer filmed the video for 44-year-old Sam Emmonds, who works for energy company SSE, who has been treated at the Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital in Portsmouth.

Her sister Hayley Fagan reached out to Pellow through social media to give Ms Emmonds, from Portsmouth, a boost.

She told the PA news agency: “My sister Rachel Robinson and I messaged Marti Pellow and to our amazement he messaged me and the next day sang With A Little Help From My Friends.

“I am an acute medical technician at QA hospital and this message from him lifted the NHS workers’ spirits.

“To our utter shock he then was so overwhelmed by the response he got he then sang another, Love Is All Around, for us all.

“Sam is off the ventilator and out of ITU. The whole family thank the wonderful doctors and nurses who saved her life.”
