Funeral for girls killed in hit-and-run takes place

By Staff Reporter

A funeral service has been held in England for two young girls who died in a road incident on New Year's Eve.

Cousins Zaneta Krokova (11) and Helina Kotlarova (12) were holding hands when the hit-and-run crash happened on Ashton Road in Oldham, at around 7.15pm on December 31. Four men have been charged over the incident.

Their funerals were held at St Paul's Church, also in Ashton Road and close to the scene of the tragedy.

The cortege included carriages pulled by white horses with pink feather headdresses.

In his eulogy, the Rev Nick Andrewes said Helina "was full of energy and life, and didn't like to see anyone sad", while Zaneta was "warm-hearted and generous".

He added that the local "diverse community" had "come together to support the families".

After the service, hundreds of people walked behind the girls' coffins as they processed through the town.

Roads were closed for the procession to Oldham Crematorium.
