By Sam Russell

A six-year-old girl was critically ill in hospital last night after a 6ft garden wall collapsed on her, Essex Police said.

The child was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in a life-threatening condition after sustaining a severe head injury following the incident in Fleetway, Basildon, on Sunday, a spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said. Emergency services including the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance were called to the scene shortly before 7pm. The area has been cordoned off while police conduct enquiries into the incident.
