Hunt on for children's watchdog

By Amanda Ferguson

The search is on for Northern Ireland's new Commissioner for Children and Young People.

Former SDLP MLA Patricia Lewsley-Mooney is moving on from the £75,000 post she took up in January 2007, as she will have served a maximum two terms by January next year.

Ms Lewsley's second term ends on January 7, 2015.

Last night, she told the Belfast Telegraph she had enjoyed her time in the post and wished her successor the best.

"It is vitally important that children and young people continue to have a say in the issues that affect their lives and that decision makers listen to those voices and act on them," she said.

Individuals interested in the job have until noon on July 7 to return completed applications.
