In Pictures: Queen pays visit to Chelsea Flower Show

Established in 1913, the event has become one of the world’s biggest showcases for horticultural excellence.

The Queen has visited the Chelsea Flower Show, as the fine spell of weather continued into a new week.

In her role as patron of the Royal Horticultural Society, the Queen cast her eye over the different gardens created for the event.

Just two days after her grandson Prince Harry married Meghan Markle amid blazing sunshine and an abundance of flowers at Windsor Castle, the Queen was once again among the blooms at the annual festival of flora.

Among the gardens she viewed was the Feel Good Garden to mark the 70th birthday of the National Health Service.

The Queen, a keen lover of life outdoors, enjoyed her advance preview of this year’s exhibitions in what has been a fixture on the calendar since the event was first staged in 1913.

Mrs May, and her husband Philip, brushed shoulders with a number of famous faces at the event being held on the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London by the Royal Horticultural Society.

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family – including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Princess Royal and Princess Alexandra – will attend the event later on.
