In Video: Feel the heat as a wall of red hot lava creeps down a road in Hawaii
Thrity-five structures have already burned down and officials warn more fissures are expected to open up.
Residents of a Hawaii community where lava is oozing through cracks in the ground were allowed back to check on their property – only to see a wall of lava advancing down the street.
Officials say they expect more fissures to open up in the Leilani Estates area, emitting lava and gas. At least 35 structures have already burned down.
Acting Hawaii County Mayor Wil Okabe said it was difficult to tell from aerial surveys how many are homes and how many are other uninhabited structures.
