Janner inquiry adjourned as 11 face police probe

By Cathy Gordon

Hearings into allegations of child sex abuse against Lord Greville Janner have been postponed until next year.

Dame Lowell Goddard, chair of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, adjourned the case to March 7 after a QC said the move was necessary due to changes of circumstances.

The first related to an ongoing inquiry into allegations of child sex abuse, and the second to an announcement yesterday that 11 people are being investigated for criminal offences and gross misconduct over the police's handling of the Janner claims.

The peer, who died aged 87 in December, is alleged to have abused children over a period spanning more than 30 years.
