Jeremy Clarkson says sorry over punch

By Kate Ferguson

Jeremy Clarkson has issued a formal apology to the Irish Top Gear producer he punched in a deal to settle a racial discrimination and personal injury claim.

Oisin Tymon launched the action after the presenter gave him a bloody lip and called him a "lazy Irish c***" after he was told he could not order steak at a Yorkshire hotel after filming.

In an apology issued through Mr Tymon's law firm, Clarkson said: "I would like to say sorry, once again, to Oisin Tymon for the incident and its regrettable aftermath. I want to reiterate that none of this was his fault. I am pleased this matter is resolved. I wish him every success."

No details of the settlement were given, but it is understood to be more than £100,000.
