Joss Stone told yesterday how "a really nice day" was spoiled when a police officer arrived at her Devon home to warn her that two men had been held nearby on suspicion of plotting to rob her and cut off her head.
Before she was informed of the alleged attempt to kill her in June 2011, the 25-year-old singer was not in the habit of securing her home in the countryside and rarely switched on its burglar alarm, a jury heard.
When Kevin Liverpool (35) and Junior Bradshaw (32) were arrested in Cullompton, police found an arsenal of weapons in the boot of their Fiat Punto, including a samurai sword, a lock knife, a metal spike and a hammer. They also had gaffer tape and bin bags, Exeter Crown Court was told.
The pair, both from Manchester, deny conspiracy to rob and murder Ms Stone. The singer said she was at home on the day the two defendants arrived to carry out their alleged plan but knew nothing about it until she was told by police.
