Man, 32, charged with murder after stabbing in Darlington street

Michael Lawson, 34, was killed on Saturday morning.

A 32-year-old has been charged with the murder of a man who suffered a fatal stab wound in the street.

Michael Lawson, 34, died following an incident in Geneva Road, Darlington, at around 4.10am on Saturday.

Durham Police said David Saunders, of Esk Road, has been charged with his murder.

He will appear before Newton Aycliffe magistrates on Monday.

Mr Lawson, who was from Appleby Close, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital by a member of the public but medics could not save him.

A post-mortem revealed he died as a result of a single stab wound to the heart.

Earlier, detectives appealed for a driver who slowed down and may have seen the incident to come forward.
