Man and woman die in hit-and-run

A man and a woman have been killed in a hit-and-run collision.

The 37-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene in Hulme, Manchester, while the 45-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition but later died.

Both were crossing Princess Road at the junction of Greenheys Lane when they were hit by a blue Vauxhall Corsa at about 10.15pm yesterday.

The man died in hospital at 10.45am today, said police.

Two men aged 20 and 59 and two women aged 19 and 47 were later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in police custody for questioning.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the blue Vauxhall Corsa in the area shortly before the collision, and I would urge you to speak to police if you have any piece of information, no matter how small.

"We are fully investigating the circumstances leading up to this collision and are appealing for anyone with any information to call us."
