Man arrested over murder in park
Murder squad detectives have appealed for information after a woman was found stabbed to death in a park.
The victim, who has not yet been formally identified by her family, was found at around 10.15am on Friday at Heaton Park, in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.
Police said emergency services went to the park and found a woman with serious neck injuries. She died at the scene.
Shortly after, workmen saw a man trying to leave the park who appeared badly injured. They detained him before alerting nearby police officers.
A 40-year-old man was then arrested on suspicion of murder and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment to an injury. He is in a stable condition.
Local reports suggested a couple had been seen arguing before the incident.
Police sources said the incident is believed to be domestic-related.
Chief Superintendent Jon Rush, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "I want to reassure members of the public we do not believe this was a random attack. However, we would still urge anyone with information to get in touch.
"We want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in the park in the run-up to, or after, this incident. No matter how insignificant you think your information might be, it could be vital to us."
