Man charged over mosque murder
A man has been charged with the murder of an imam killed at a mosque after morning prayers, Scotland Yard said.
Ziani Aissa, 24, of no fixed abode will appear before magistrates on Monday after being charged with the murder of a 39-year old man at the Muslim Welfare House in Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, north London, on Friday.
He will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Scotland Yard said.
The victim, who was named locally as Sheikh Maymoun Zarzour, was found dead at the scene after emergency services were called on Friday morning to reports of a man seriously injured at the Muslim Welfare House.
The mosque, in a statement, said it was thought the religious leader was killed in his office after taking prayers.
