Man charged with baby girl's murder
A 27-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an 11-month-old girl, police said.
Unemployed Jerome Edwards was charged with killing Crystal Hall-Hummel after being arrested by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex major crime team.
Paramedics were called to a property in Nursery Lane, Worthing, West Sussex, just before 10am on May 13 and revived Crystal after she had stopped breathing.
After being admitted to Worthing Hospital, she was transferred to St Thomas's Hospital in south London but was pronounced dead the following afternoon.
A post-mortem examination carried out by a Home Office pathologist and a specialist paediatric pathologist gave a provisional cause of Crystal's death as head injury.
Further detailed and expert analysis by doctors specialising in infant head injury established that her death was caused by internal head injuries, Sussex Police said.
Edwards, of Bridgefield Close, Midhurst, will make his first appearance at Worthing Magistrates' Court later.
