A 26-year-old man has been charged with terrorism offences, Scotland Yard said.
Afsor Ali was arrested on a street in north London on Wednesday evening following an investigation by the Met's Counter Terrorism Command.
He was taken to an east London police station for questioning before being charged with four counts of possessing documents likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, police said.
Officers also searched two residential addresses in east London in connection with their inquiry.
Ali, of Scott Street, east London, was released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on December 6.
