Man dies in flat fire in Caithness

A body was recovered from a property in Thurso on Thursday morning.

A man has died following a fire at a home in Caithness.

Fire crews were called to a flat in Thurso’s Bank Street on Thursday morning.

A man’s body was recovered from the property after the blaze at around 7.20am. He has yet to be formally identified.

A joint investigation will be carried out by Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Detective Inspector Scott Macdonald said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time.

“We are in the early stages of establishing the full circumstances of this fire and these enquiries are currently ongoing.”
