Man held after woman goes missing

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the disappearance of a mother of three.

Ranya Alayed, 25, from Cheetham Hill, Manchester, was reported missing from her home on Tuesday.

Police say her disappearance was "extremely out of character" and have searched her home as part of their investigations.

Ms Alayed previously lived in north east England and moved to Manchester in January.

A man and a woman have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but detectives stressed at this stage they are treating it as a missing from home inquiry.

The three people detained will be interviewed under caution to allow them to give a full account, police said.

Superintendent Vanessa Jardine, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "Ranya is a mother to three young children so you can imagine that her family are frantic with worry.

"That is why we are asking people to help us with this inquiry. A young mother has gone missing in sudden circumstances and our overriding concern is that she is reunited with her children. Ranya, if you are reading this, please get in touch to tell us you are OK.

"At this stage, however, we cannot rule out the possibility that Ranya has come to some harm and we won't know for sure what's happened to her until we find her."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 3101.
