Man held after woman's stab murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 19-year-old woman and the attempted murder of a 60-year-old woman.

Police went to Hill Street in Toxteth, Liverpool, at 3.50pm on Saturday after being called by neighbours.

A police spokesman said: "Both women were taken to hospital suffering from stab wounds, the 19-year-old was declared dead at hospital the 60-year-old's condition is described as serious."

A 50-year-old man from Toxteth has been arrested and is being questioned by detectives.

The scene is sealed off for forensic examination and house-to-house inquiries are under way.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will be carried out on Sunday.
