The 21-year-old was attacked in Ardrossan on Monday evening.
A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in an Ayrshire street.
The 21-year-old suffered a back injury after being knifed by another man at Burns Terrace, Ardrossan, just after 6pm on Monday.
The victim was able to walk along the street for a short distance but then collapsed, police said.
He was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where staff say he is in a serious but stable condition.
Officers are appealing for information about the incident and have issued a description of the suspect.
He is described as being white, in his 20s and about 5ft 7ins tall. He was wearing grey jogging bottoms and a grey hooded top with the hood up.
Detective Sergeant Craig Semple said: “Burns Terrace is a busy residential area and I am keen to speak with anyone who has any information which could help identify the man responsible for the attack on the 21-year-old victim.”
