Officers are hunting the suspects and have cordoned off two areas of the park in the Seedley area of the city. One of the areas behind police tape appears to have the remnants of a picnic left on the grass.

Officers were conducting searches with torches as night fell in the park, which is well-maintained and popular with children and families.

Salford has seen a spate of machete and knife attacks, part of a simmering gangland feud in the city.
