Man killed as car crashes into shop

A driver has died after his car collided with a shop, police said.

The 47-year-old local man was driving an 'X' registered Ford Focus on Walters Road in Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan.

At about 2am on Saturday, the car collided with a shop premises on the road and the man received fatal injuries.

South Wales Police, who are investigating the incident, have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for the force said: "The police would like to speak to any person who witnessed the collision or who stopped to provide assistance, or anyone who may have seen the vehicle being driven prior to the collision who have not yet given their details.

"Police are interested in speaking to the driver of a white mini bus and its occupants who are believed to arrived at the scene just after the collision."

The road was closed for about seven hours while police carried out an investigation and recovered the vehicle.

"South Wales Police would like to thank the people affected by the closure for their patience and understanding," the spokesman added.

A family liaison officer had been appointed to support the man's next of kin and the coroner has been informed.
