Man quizzed over death sectioned

A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering a teenage mother who was found dead in the front room of a house has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, police said.

Nicole Cartmell, 18, had been missing from her home in West Bromwich, West Midlands, since Valentine's Day.

Her body was discovered at a property in Whateley Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, on Wednesday morning.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Officers called at the address to speak to occupants regarding the use of bank cards belonging to the young mother.

"Two men were arrested from the house on suspicion of murder.

"A 20-year-old was later sectioned under the Mental Health Act, whilst an 18-year-old man was granted police bail pending further inquiries."

Police said Ms Cartmell had given birth to a boy in January. The child is being cared for by family members.

A post-mortem examination failed to determine a cause of death.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sandwell and Dudley team of Force CID at Harborne police station on 0345 113 5000 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
