Man remanded on stabbing charge

A man has been remanded in custody charged with murder following a fatal stabbing outside a town centre pub.

Carlton McKay is accused of killing Chris Isted, 25, by The Ship on the High Street in Croydon, south London.

The 27-year-old faces a second count of attempted murder after another man aged 25 received stab wounds at the venue on March 31.

Emergency workers were called to the pub just after 2am to reports of a stabbing and discovered Mr Isted, from Croydon, unconscious. Paramedics from London Ambulance Service attempted to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died of multiple stab wounds.

The second 25-year-old victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

McKay, of St Paul's Road, Thornton Heath, Croydon, appeared briefly in the dock at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody.

He will appear at the Old Bailey for a plea and case management hearing on July 16.
