Man who had child porn to be sentenced in September

By George Jackson

A 27-year-old man was placed on the sex offenders register yesterday after pleading guilty to possessing indecent images of children.

Austin Quigg, whose address was given as The Downs in Middleton, Manchester, but who is originally from Dungiven, pleaded guilty at his arraignment to 14 charges between January 2010 and March 2012.

Quigg, who was interviewed by police in 2013, also pleaded guilty to three charges of inciting children between 13 and 16 years of age to engage in sexual activities.

However, he denied three similar charges and instead pleaded guilty to attempting to incite the children to engage in sexual activities. Those offences occurred between October 2009 and January 2012.

Defence barrister Eoghan Devlin told Judge Philip Babington that no statements of complaint had been made to police and it therefore could not be proven that the injured parties were under the age of 16.

Mr Devlin said one of the girls on the charge sheets said she was 14 but the offences appeared to show children under the age of 16. He said that did not take away from the seriousness of the offences admitted.

The case was adjourned until September and Judge Babington told Quigg the length of time he would be subject to the notifications of the sexual offenders register would be determined when he was sentenced. Quigg was then released on bail.
