Fire crews are dealing with a serious blaze in Manchester city centre.

Members of the public have been asked to avoid the area after the fire took hold at a building between Corporation Street and Hanover Street on Monday evening.

Local traffic, trams and the surrounding roads have all been affected, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.

Thick smoke could be seen billowing into the air as crews battled to control the blaze, according to footage on the fire service's social media pages.

It is not yet clear whether anyone has been injured.
