Labour leader Ed Miliband has said restoring public confidence and making sure rebuilding work starts as quickly as possible are the priorities following a fourth night of violence in some of England's major cities.
Mr Miliband said the causes of the riots were "complex" and called for insurance claims to be fast-tracked.
"For now, the priority is restoring public confidence," he told BBC Breakfast.
The Labour leader called for local authorities to be given the money to make sure rebuilding could start, providing reassurance to affected communities.
Praising the "strong policing response" last night he called for "brave" police to be allowed to make operational decisions about how to deal with the unrest.
He added: "We have got to give them the resources they need, that's very important."
