Mother of Peru Two girl Melissa Reid plans jail visit

One of the Peru Two cocaine smuggling girls is to receive a visit in jail from her mother.

Scot Melissa Reid (21), who with Dungannon woman Michaella McCollum Connolly, is awaiting sentence at Virgen de Fatima jail in Lima, is set to see her mother for the first time in months.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling at Peru's international airport on August 6.

Despite their early claims of having been abducted by a gang and forced at gunpoint to travel to Peru and carry the drugs, the duo changed their plea to guilty in the hope of a lessor sentence.

Prosecutors rejected their guilty plea in September as it was felt their confession did not go far enough.

Debbie Reid, from Lenzie, outside Glasgow, said of her daughter's plight: "This situation has made her feel like my baby daughter - I'm mummy instead of mum.

"I feel that we are in limbo waiting for the sentence. When it does come, at least we'll have something to aim for.

It has not been reported whether McCollum Connolly (21) has received any other visitors other than her brother and her solicitor, Peter Madden of Madden & Finucane.
