Mother's grief over prison death
A mother who reported her son to police has spoken of her grief after he died in prison.
Sharron Lewis contacted authorities after recognising Sheldon Woodford on CCTV footage of an elderly woman being robbed.
Woodford, 24, died last Thursday, weeks after he was jailed. Reports claim he hanged himself.
Ms Lewis told the Daily Mirror: "I have asked myself and people around me, 'did I do the right thing?'. Everyone has said 'yes' but it doesn't make me feel any better."
A Prison Service spokesperson said: "HMP Winchester prisoner Sheldon Woodford died in hospital at 2.10pm on Thursday 12 March.
"Every death in custody is a tragedy and as with all deaths, there will be an investigation by the independent prisons and probation ombudsman."
