Nigel Havers has revealed he quit I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! after concluding that his wife would not have tolerated him if he had endured any more humiliation.
The 59-year-old, who became the first of this year's celebrities to walk, said his life at home would not have been "worth living".
The Charmer and Dangerfield star first threatened to walk when he was told that the campmates would receive a mild electric shock as part of a task.
Getting increasingly agitated, he told producers: "I don't do that, I don't do that so I'm leaving okay because I don't do electric shocks....Get me out of here now. I'm going to go home. Get me out of here. I'm out."
The actor, who has been married twice previously, returned after spending some time mulling things over.
But it was the prison-style black and white striped outfit that Nigel would have been forced to wear in the camp's jail that sent him over the edge.
He said: "I decided this morning that I'm going to go across the bridge of my own accord. Actually the final straw was if my wife had seen me in those prison clothes I wouldn't have my life worth living. And I would have worried myself sick (in here) because of it."
Nigel's to-ing and fro-ing prompted much comment from his campmates, with comedian Dom Joly stating: "Nigel has a hissy.... It's (the task) what we're here for... get on with it."
Nigel had attempted to slip away unnoticed, telling Jenny Eclair: "Sweetheart, I'm just going to slip away. I might be gone some time".
To Shaun Ryder, he said: "Goodbye old bean. No big deal. I'm just going to slip quietly away."
