OAP shopkeeper fends off trio of knife-wielding robbers with wooden stick
A 66-year-old shopkeeper said "instinct took over" when she waved a wooden stick at three raiders wearing Scream masks and carrying knives who were demanding cash.
One of the men was carrying a 10 inch knife but the pair fled Shergill Stores, in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, empty handed after Sharinder Gill reached behind the counter for the weapon.
The third man stood by the door while the attempted robbery took place on Wednesday at around 9.40pm.
The grandmother-of-two, who has run the shop for 25 years, said: "I just thought who are they to come in here and disrupt our livelihood?
"Instinct took over, I picked up the stick and hit one of them on the hand.
"Then they just ran out. I was shaking at the time, but I just wasn't thinking about what I was doing.
"I don't know how I felt at the time, I just had to do something."
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police said the men are believed to be aged 18 or 19 and have asked anyone with information to call 101.
