Pc who headbutted boy spared jail

A Scotland Yard officer who headbutted a schoolboy has been spared a jail term.

Pc Karl Bartlett, 42, of the force's Territorial Support Group, was given a three month suspended sentence after being found guilty of swinging the 14-year-old against a car.

The victim was a passenger in a vehicle which had been stopped in north-west London on suspicion of the driver using his mobile phone.

Bartlett, who gave his address as New Scotland Yard despite being suspended from the force, was convicted of common assault last month.

A force spokesman said he was sentenced at Westminster Magistrates' Court to three months' imprisonment suspended for 12 months and ordered to do 18 hours of unpaid work.

The teenager was left with cut lips and abrasions after the attack on March 1 last year.

Lee Rosier, 24, was driving home from a classic car rally when the attack on his young passenger took place.
