Police motorcyclist hurt in crash

A police motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a collision with a van while responding to a road accident.

The male rider, 45, from Hampshire Constabulary was on a marked BMW bike when it collided with the Volkswagon Caddy van on the A337 between Lyndhurst and Brokenhurst in Hants on Saturday afternoon.

The officer was on duty responding to a separate two-vehicle incident, which had occurred earlier, police said.

He sustained serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

"His immediate family members have been informed. The driver of the Volkswagen is being interviewed, no arrest has been made," a police spokeswoman said.
