Queen's reign tops inspirational news event poll
The Queen's record-breaking reign has been voted the most inspirational news event of 2015.
The milestone polled ahead of the 'Je suis Charlie' response to the terrorist attacks on the French satirical magazine and British astronaut Tim Peake's launch into space in a new survey by QHotels.
Elizabeth II was also named the most inspirational person of the year with 35% of the vote, ahead of athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, Peake and Jeremy Corbyn.
The Queen became the country's longest serving monarch in history on September 9 when she passed Queen Victoria's record of 23,226 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes on the throne. She is matter-of-fact about the achievement, declaring: "Inevitably, a long life can pass by many milestones."
