A young girl has been killed after she was struck by a car as she rode a toy scooter.

Police were alerted to the incident in Hadleigh, Suffolk, just after 5.45pm yesterday.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: " Officers attended and immediately began attempts to resuscitate the child. These efforts were continued by ambulance personnel on arrival before the little girl was taken to Ipswich Hospital by road ambulance, however she died a short time later.

"Initially it appears the girl - thought to be around three to five years old - may have been on a toy scooter when she was in collision with the Honda car.

"Police are talking to the driver, who is not believed to be related to the girl, and he is receiving medical treatment for shock."

Anyone who saw the incident in Canterbury Gardens is asked to contact the serious collision investigation team at Suffolk Police on 101.
