Sellafield firefighters set to strike over pay

By PA Reporter

Firefighters at the Sellafield nuclear site are to stage a second day of strike action later this month in a dispute over pay.

Members of the GMB union will walk out for 24 hours on July 31 after previously announcing they would stage a strike on July 24.

The union said an offer from the company would still leave firefighters' pay nearly 5% below the combined increase in the inflation rate since 2009.

Firefighters working at Sellafield claim they have been underpaid for many years, despite working 12-hour shifts.
